CURRENT SINGLE: “Never Wanted to Be That Girl” w/ Ashley McBryde
Carly Pearce’s latest song with Ashley McBryde, “Never Wanted to be That Girl,” is the story of two women who unwittingly fall victim to one dishonest, cheating guy. In the song, Carly’s character is the one being cheated on, which is something she has experienced in real life, and she says, “To me, as an adult, something that you probably wrestle with more is trying to not assign so much blame to yourself. A lot of times there are things that you overlook and there are things that maybe you, in the end, know that you should’ve known.”
Rather than beat herself up for not seeing the signs of his infidelity, or worse, choosing to ignore them. Carly says all she can do is promise herself, “I’m gonna pay attention more.” And she says, “I think as you grow and as you go through life and you go through all different kinds of relationships, you learn that and you figure that out and hopefully you’re better for the next.”
You can find “Never Wanted to be That Girl” on Carly’s award winning 29: Written in Stone album.
