Midland’s lead singer, Mark Wystrach, welcomed his baby girl, Sundance “Sunny” Leon, into the world 10 weeks ago. Shortly after her birth, he revealed on social media that her birth was not without complications and that she and Mark’s wife, Tyler, had to remain in the hospital for over a week. Mark recently shared just how serious and dire the circumstances surrounding his daughter’s birth were. “We had a really scary, unexpected, emergency C-section that we had a fetal to maternal hemorrhage, and we lost the baby’s heartbeat and my wife, Tyler’s, vitals were crashing.”
Mark started to get emotional as he described it as the scariest, worst, and in a weird way, the best moment of his life. Holding back tears, he said, “I guess it’s still there. But yeah, it scared me. When you almost lose your wife and your kid and then you don’t, and you’re surrounded by your family and your friends and your community, it kinda rearranges your priorities and makes you throw up a bunch and kind of checks your ego back.”
While Mark would have preferred that his daughter’s birth was simple and uneventful, he acknowledges, “because of that experience – and we got really lucky – it’s weird how life ends up being a gift, because it teaches you the greatest lesson, that this life is a gift and you can’t take it for granted.”
Mark is enjoying as much time with his wife and daughter as he can, in between Midland’s Electric Rodeo Tour and their promotional events surrounding their new single, “Cheatin’ Songs.”
