Like any new artist, when Thomas Rhett was young and just starting his career, he dreamt of #1 songs and platinum albums, and awards, and selling out arenas, and looked at those as benchmarks of success. But now that he’s older, the definition of success is much simpler in a lot of ways. “I’ve never felt like when I turned a different age, I never felt like I changed at all. 20 to 21 was a big shift because you can’t drink and then you can. That was like a big shift. 28 to 29, that was a big shift. And I think, probably having kids and having a wife that I love so much really just kind of put a lot of things into perspective.”
These days, rather than filling his head with visions of bigger and better things he wants to chase in his career, Thomas says, “I’ve really just tried to live every day in the present. Being present this year is my New Year’s resolution, and not trying to think what’s going to happen in five years from now. But success for me is just always writing better songs and always playing better shows and always trying to be the best dude that I can.”
When you look at Thomas’ personal life and his career, it’s safe to say he’s checking all three of those boxes. This week he adds another number one song to his list of achievements with “Beer Can’t Fix,” his collaboration with Jon Pardi, hitting the top of the charts.
