NEW SINGLE: “What’s Your Country Song”
Look at almost any social media post of Thomas Rhett and his wife Lauren, and inevitably you will see several comments with #couplegoals included. And while they have a great marriage, it requires a lot of work like any other marriage. “For us, I mean, it was even in our wedding vows. We said, divorce is not an option,” shares Thomas.
No matter how sweet and perfect their marriage looks from the outside, Thomas says, “Marriage is frickin’ hard. No matter what you do for a livin’, when you start to add kids into the equation, things just change. You start to love each other differently because now you have, for us, three little babies to take care of. So, making time for each other, I think, was a struggle that we dealt with.”
As any parent will relate, Thomas and Lauren have had to make a very concerted and conscious effort to spend alone time together, or weeks or months can go by with no quality time spent nurturing the marriage. He says, “We’ve finally gotten on a really great calendar deal of like, ‘Hey, Wednesday night, me and you, we’re goin’ downstairs and we’re drinking a glass of wine and we’re watchin’ a movie. I don’t care what else is happenin’. We have to reconnect.’”
Thomas and Lauren have been married for eight and a half years, and putting the work and the time in, “That’s what marriage is about,” says Thomas, “just growin’ with each other, and facin’ a problem head on and be brutally honest with each other, and you will come out the other side of that.”
Thomas Rhett – challenge of marriage :41
“For us, I mean, it was even in our wedding vows. We said, divorce is not an option. Because marriage is frickin’ hard. No matter what you do for a livin’, when you start to add kids into the equation, things just change. You start to love each other differently because now you have, for us, three little babies to take care of. So, making time for each other, I think, was a struggle that we dealt with, just from goin’, well, I need to watch the baby, you need to watch both girls. But, you know, we were supposed to have date night tonight. Well, let’s just push it until next week. And so, we’ve finally gotten on a really great calendar deal of like, ‘Hey, Wednesday night, me and you, we’re goin’ downstairs and we’re drinking a glass of wine and we’re watchin’ a movie. I don’t care what else is happenin’. We have to reconnect.’ That’s what marriage is about though, just growin’ with each other, and facin’ a problem head on and be brutally honest with each other, and you will come out the other side of that.”
