As Michael Hobby shares, Darius has been an awesome host and it’s been a blast so far:

(:48) (ATH’s Michael Hobby) “The tour vibe’s been incredible I mean we started it out the day after his (Darius) birthday up in New Jersey so we had a great time that night, his birthday night just listening to music and he was singing songs and we were just kind of like jamming in these little rooms they set up with TVs in them you know every night. So that’s been a lot of fun he…there’s a Madden tournament Football, ’cause they all love playing Madden in his camp, and we didn’t have a PlayStation 4 ’cause he asked he’s like ‘You guys have a PlayStation 4?’ and I was like, ‘No we don’t have one,’ and he goes, ‘Oh, I gotta get you one, I’m gonna get you Madden’ and sure enough a knock on the bus a few days later and ‘Here’s you PlayStation Madden…’ shoot basketball and play corn hole, it’s like a big play ground most the time backstage every day.”

A Thousand Horses has been loving time on the Darius Rucker’s “Southern Style Tour” which kicked off in May and the guys admit that after spending some time on Darius’ bus, they are a bit bus envious:

(:20) (ATH’s Graham Deloach, Michael Hobby, Zach Brown) (Michael) “He’s got some big TVs on his bus… (Graham) “Yeah, he’s got that thing decked out. It looks like Charleston inside of his bus. It’s wild.” (Michael) “Yeah he’s got three large Televisions in the front lounge.” (Zach) “That’s awesome.” (Michael) “He can watch anything at anytime, anywhere… I don’t know how he watches ’em all.” (Zach) “He’s such a sports fan he’s probably got all the football games on during the season, it’s awesome.”

Before A Thousand Horses even released their chart topping single “Smoke,” tour boss Darius Rucker already had faith in the guys and asked them to be a part of his “Southern Style Tour:”

(:26) (ATH’s Michael Hobby) “We had the pleasure of playing with Darius several times before. Fortunately he liked us, we got along real well and he really liked our show he’d say, so when we got the call that we’re gonna throw you on this summer… before we had a hit on the radio or even the single was on the radio he’s like, ‘I wanna throw you on first of four of the Southern Style Tour is you guys wanna do it?’ and we’re like, ‘Well, dah of courses. It’s really a dream come true for us to be on this tour this summer.”

A Thousand Horses say that before they knew and started touring with Darius Rucker, he and Hootie and the Blowfish were both an influence on the members of the band:

(:31) (ATH’s Michael Hobby) “Bill and I growing up in South Carolina and even Graham and Zach growing up in Georgia I mean Hootie and the Blowfish was everywhere I mean that was the region where they toured so, you know, I remember when I first got a guitar learning ‘Hold My Hand’ or ‘Time’ and all those hits songs ’cause you know they were G, C, D, E and that was pretty much it so…” (Graham) “I covered ‘Hold My Hand’ in my middle school band and now we get up on stage every night and sing it with him, it’s crazy.” (Michael) “It’s funny the full circle on that (both guys say ‘yeah’).”

A Thousand Horses have something that most bands in country music don’t have these days on the road and that is three female background singers. Zach Brown explains why they decided to take some singers along for the tour:

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/207894042?secret_token=s-lt2B3″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

(:16) (ATH’s Zach Brown) “You know we wanted to come out of the gate especially as a new group coming (to) radio and all these new cities we wanted to bring something different that would leave an impression on people and do something that no one else has done and I think that’s a big part of coming with that big powerful sound, you know just trying to go big.”

It’s bound to happen when you hit the stage almost every night on tour, mishaps will take place and A Thousand Horses it not immune. Zach Brown shares:

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/207894038?secret_token=s-by6xS” params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

(:16) (ATH”s Zach Brown) “When we were in Tampa ne and Bill got tangled in our guitars. I went over to his side and then he jumped back from a solo and we were twisted up in our guitars cables so we had to like stand there for the whole song…” (Graham) “You’re trapped, yeah.” (Zach) “Yeah we were trapped, I was trapped over there on his side for the rest of the song and then at the end we had to run around in circles and untangled each other.”

A Thousand Horses stay close to social media and as Bill Satcher shares, the guys like to check it out right after a show and see has fast their fans post:

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/207894037?secret_token=s-3EYMi” params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

(:15) (ATH’s Bill Satcher and Michael Hobby) (Bill) “After a show I’ll like search A Thousand Horses hashtag and like see people’s photos of the show and stuff. I think it’s pretty neat.” (Michael) “Sometimes you can like get a lot of people’s photos that they captured of you and you know you post ’em and tag ’em like ‘Great photo thanks for sharing’ you know that’s always cool some people really do take some great stuff.”

A Thousand Horses have been on the road for a while now and they know exactly what they must have on their tour bus at any given time:

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/207894033?secret_token=s-41RZt” params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

(:35) (A Thousand Horses’ Graham, Zach, Michael and Bill) (Graham) “Gotta have a jam box…” (Bill) “Gotta have a way to listen to some music…” (Zach) “We’ve gotta play some music before the show get in the zone and then we’ve gotta crank it up for the after party.” (Bill) “You’ve always gotta have ice on the bus.” (Michael) “It’s very important.” (Bill) “If the bus doesn’t have ice…” (Michael) “Ice is like gold out on the road.” (Bill) …then you’re out of business.” (Zach) “Well actually we need to work on this a little more our little party box like corn hole, to kind of have some fun during the day some corn hole, a little work out gear some kettle bells.” (Graham) “A Frisbee a football…” (Bill) “Guitar picks…”

The guys from A Thousand Horses like to play music before they hit the stage to get pumped up for the show. Lately, the guys have been jamming out to one Nashville act in particular:

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/207894030?secret_token=s-bOHYF” params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

(:14) (ATH”s Zac, Graham and Michael) (Zach) “Sometimes we put on you know like the current country playlist.” (Bill) “I really like listening to Jason Aldean before we play.” (Zach) “I do too, yeah.” (Bill) “I feel like every time we listen to Jason Aldean before a show it’s better.” (Michael) “Aldean is straight up I mean when you listen to ‘My Kinda Party’ you can help but really wanna party.”

A Thousand Horses put a lot of thought into their set list each night and as Michael Hobby shares, there’s no doubt that fans are going to hear their chart topper “Smoke” at just the right time:

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/207894024?secret_token=s-4pbI6″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

(:27) (ATH’s Michael and Graham) (Michael) “We know we’ve gotta play one for sure (laughs) (Graham says “right”) and that usually goes towards the end.” (Graham) “I feel like we kind like all sit together kinda create the skeleton we’re like, ‘Alright we’ll start it off with this, this is kinda like the middle section and then this is our big ending’ and then there are a couple of spots that kinda like change and ebb and flow where we can kinda just like replace a song here, ‘Well we don’t wanna play this song tonight, we’ll play this instead’ so we can kinda interchange, keep it interesting (and) not do the same thing every single night.”

A Thousand Horses’ Graham Deloach, Michael Hobby and Zach Brown share that when they play their big hit “Smoke” on stage each night the feeling isn’t like any other:

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/207894018?secret_token=s-XpoFL” params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

(:23) (ATH’s Michael and Zach) (Graham) “Yeah, it’s crazy every camera phone is in the air…” (Michael) “Every body’s out of their seats and you can hear ’em sing it.” (Zach) “Yeah that’s the dream you know growing up that’s one of the things you like ‘Man, we’ll have made it if people are singing our song back to us’ you know? To see that happening and not just in your hometown but every place you go that even cities you’ve never been to, once people know your song it feels awesome.”

A Thousand Horses have one big hit song “Smoke” that fans can’t wait to hear each night in their shows and then they play the original songs that can be found on their debut album, Southernality, but to fill a show they still play a few covers. They share their best:

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/207894017?secret_token=s-DkAdP” params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

(:23) (ATH’s Graham) (Graham) “We do a version of ‘Dead Flowers’ by the Rolling Stones that Zach actually sings like the lead in the verse and stuff and then we all gang vocal the chorus that’s really fun.” (Michael) “That’s one’s fun because it’s like an old country song by the Stones you know it’s got that hillbilly kind of country shuffle thing to it. We get to jam with each other on that one because it’s such a long song.” (Zach) “It’s kind of free flowing…” (Michael) “We can drag that one out about eight minutes.”[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][divider align=”center” type=”solid” title=”SHOW LINERS”][vc_column_text](A Thousand Horses) “We’re A Thousand Horses and we’re excited to be a part of Darius Rucker’s Southern Style Tour!”
