Maddie & Tae originally planned to release their debut album, Start Here, in early June, but decided to push the release back to the end of August. Maddie says the decision to postpone the release was simply about wanting to give their fans the best possible album, exactly how they want it, and that took a little more time than they anticipated. She says, “Tae and I are very hands-on with our project. We’re perfectionists with this. We want to be a part of every single aspect of our careers, and our album artwork, we hand-wrote lyrics and put in the background and wrote a note to the fans so every single fan gets a CD and there’s a note from us, in every album. We wanted to do those kinds of things and those things take forever, and then getting that music right takes forever, especially me. Oh my gosh, Dan Huff was so good with us because I am a pain in the butt. I’m like, ‘More steel, more fiddle, more banjo…”

Maddie says every time they asked for something more it added time to the project. But it was important for them to get the sound just right because she says, “We just really emphasized that we wanted this to be a Country record. You turn that thing on and you know it’s Country and you know it’s Maddie & Tae, ‘cause we want that sound to be very distinctive. But, all of that takes so much longer than we thought. ‘Cause this is our first time doing this.”

Start Here from Maddie & Tae will now be released on August 28th, featuring their debut single, “Girl in a Country Song,” and their current single, “Fly.”

Maddie & Tae announced their own “Start Here Tour” to begin in October. Meanwhile, the duo has shows in New York state and Indiana this weekend.
