Brantley Gilbert’s new single is called “Stone Cold Sober,” but he recently shared a story about how his latest #1 song, “One Hell of an Amen,” really hit close to home. The song tells the story of two guys who passed away, one during war and one from cancer, but they went out fighting a good fight. Brantley shared, “My grandfather passed away, actually, right as the song was goin’ number one. He was a military fella and it just took on a whole new meaning for me.”
Brantley recalls getting the news of his grandfather’s passing while he was on his honeymoon. He said, “I told my wife, I said, ‘Hey, let me walk outside and just try to wrap my mind around this for a minute.’ … I walked outside and I was like, ‘Well, here’s a chance to practice what you’ve been preachin’ to everybody’, about this song. It was one hell of an amen.”
You can find “One Hell of an Amen” and Brantley’s latest single, “Stone Cold Sober,” on his Just As I Am (Platinum Edition) album.

Brantley Gilbert – One Hell new meaning for him :36
“It took on a whole new meaning for me. My grandfather passed away, actually, right as the song was goin’ number one. He was a military fella and it just took on a whole new meaning for me. I was on my honeymoon, actually, when it happened, and the last night of my honeymoon I told my wife, I said, ‘Hey, let me walk outside and just try to wrap my mind around this for a minute.’ I didn’t get to see him a whole lot, he was from Indiana, but I’ve always been a lot like him, like that side of the family. I walked outside and I was like, ‘Well, here’s a chance to practice what you’ve been preachin’ to everybody’, about this song. It was one hell of an amen.”
