Hank Jr. penned most all of his big hits, including: “All My Rowdy Friends,” “Born to Boogie,” and “Young Country”…plus, several on his new album. As for his new single, “Are You Ready for the Country,” Neil Young wrote that years ago.
The Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame member says, “I never sit down to ‘try’ to write a song. When it does come, I could be sitting in a deer stand or sitting on a boat.”
In today’s country music world, most songs are written by appointment with another songwriter. However, that’s not how Bocephus does it…

Hank Jr. – no writing sessions for me :20
“This is a real old fool from the real old school. I don’t go to writing sessions at 1:30. I’ve gotta meet so and so and have a writing session. That ain’t gonna happen with guys like me. I might have a writing session anywhere, but to get together…no way! It just won’t work and my thing works real nice. Thank you.”
