With a new single on the charts, Hank Jr. is now one of the few artists that have charted songs over a span of 6 decades. The Nashville Songwriter’s Hall of Fame member prefers recording new music, but that’s not the case with “Are You Ready For The Country.”
Waylon recorded the song in 1977, but their friendship dates back to when Hank was just a kid on his mom’s tour, The Audrey Williams Caravan of Stars. Hank knows that he has a lot of young fans, so they may not know Waylon’s version, but he wishes they did.
Hank recalls getting to know Waylon and later seeing the legend sing it on stage…

Hank Jr. – recalls opening for Waylon :26
“There are 2 guys on the tour. One of them is named Merle Haggard and one of them is named Waylon Jennings. And I’m riding in Waylon Jennings’ Dodge motor home. And now a little later on, time goes by and old Bocephus has some monster hits and boom, little Bocephus is opening the show. So, Waylon Jennings goes out there and starts the show with ‘Are You Ready For The Country.’ People don’t, they just don’t remember that.”
