Martina McBride just finished a new video and is working on an upcoming album, but that’s not why she was talking to media last week. Instead, she announced her involvement with Band Against Cancer. Part of that will include kicking off a tour to benefit cancer support organizations, and will be called The Sarah Cannon Tour.
The Sarah Cannon Research Institute bears the real name of the famous country comedienne better known as Minnie Pearl, who once battled and beat breast cancer. The Opry star had retired by the time Martina came to Nashville, but she has crossed her charitable path more than once. In 2003, she accepted the Minnie Pearl Humanitarian Award, and has recorded songs and toured extensively bringing awareness to cancer treatments as well as supporting those who have it.
Martina, who has seen the power of music up close, commented, “Helping families who are facing cancer has always been a cause that is near and dear to my heart.” Her Grammy nominated hit, “I’m Gonna Love You Through It,” continues to inspire those battling cancer…
