Rascal Flatts is known for their tender ballads like “I’m Movin’ On” and “Bless the Broken Road,” but they also have their guitar-driven rockers like “Summertime” and “Me and My Gang.” Jay DeMarcus says it’s all about giving all the guys a chance to shine with their strengths. He says, “Joe Don is a fantastic guitar player and some of his influences are those guitar slinging kinda guys, so that’s why we have these big soaring guitar solos and huge sing-able melodies and guitar solos that we do.”
While Joe Don can play more traditional “chicken pickin’” kind of guitar, Jay says, “He excels when it comes to Dan Huff, Steve Lukather screamin’ guitar solos, so we cater to what each of us bring to the table, as far as our strengths.”
Rascal Flatts’ latest single, “I Like the Sound of That,” just entered the top 15, plus they just kicked off their latest residency at The Joint inside the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.

Rascal Flatts – Joe Don guitar strength :28
Jay DeMarcus – “Joe Don is a fantastic guitar player and some of his influences are those guitar slinging kinda guys, so that’s why we have these big soaring guitar solos and huge sing-able melodies and guitar solos that we do. He’s not…I mean he can do it, but his bag is not a telecaster chicken pickin’ kinda deal. He excels when it comes to Dan Huff, Steve Lukather screamin’ guitar solos, so we cater to what each of us bring to the table, as far as our strengths.”
