The TV show Nashville is loosely based on the music industry of the city of Nashville, and while they obviously have to write compelling storylines and plot twists that may be a little more dramatic than what happens in real life, Charles Esten, who plays Deacon Clayborne on Nashville says, “We make a real and true effort to get it as close as we can. I’ve heard of some people that sort of pause, for a moment to squirm and feel uncomfortable that they’ve been in the room before, they’ve seen that executive room, they’ve seen that performance go awry.”
At the same time, even though the drama on TV is a little more amped up for entertainment value, Charles says, “An average day (in the city of Nashville) might not have quite the excitement of an average episode, but then again, the second I tell myself that somethin’ happens in the headlines or somethin’ happens to one of the artists in town, or songwriters, and you go, ‘Wow, we couldn’t have written that.’ So, the second you see a plot that you’re pretty sure couldn’t happen, you might wanna check yourself, because we might be able to.”
New episodes of Nashville return to ABC on Wednesday, March 16th.

Nashville – Charles Esten Nashville vs reality :49
“I don’t think they’re any different, I think they’re exact. [laughs] I’m only kidding you. I don’t actually know, I mean I’m half joking. I don’t know where those differences are. We make a real and true effort to get it as close as we can. I’ve heard of some people that sort of pause, for a moment to squirm and feel uncomfortable that they’ve been in the room before, they’ve seen that executive room, they’ve seen that performance go awry, but I also know that we certainly have heightened drama where we’re bringing an audience so that an average day here might not have quite the excitement of an average episode, but then again, the second I tell myself that somethin’ happens in the headlines or somethin’ happens to one of the artists in town, or songwriters, and you go, ‘Wow, we couldn’t have written that.’ So, the second you see a plot that you’re pretty sure couldn’t happen, you might wanna check yourself, because we might be able to, yeah.”
