Jennifer Nettles’ new song, “Unlove You,” is very emotional and vulnerable, and so it’s no surprise that some of her fans have been sharing very personal stories about how the song has touched them or relates to their own story. Jennifer says, “With songs like ‘Unlove You’, the stories that I get told and the way that people relate to them in their own lives, and the openness and honesty, and also the self-acceptance that people have to come and share with me, their brokenness, it is sometimes overwhelming to realize what an impact music can have and what an impact one’s own music can have.”
Even on stage, when she’s looking out into a sea of fans, whether it’s the exact heartbreak she’s singing about in “Unlove You,” or another heartache that has to do with their kids or their health or their job, Jennifer says, “The realization of looking out at all of those people and knowing that they have all had heartache and that many of them are dealing with heartache right now, whatever it may be, and knowing that so many of them are dealing with real life pain, and that they are all here to enjoy a respite, to connect, the gravity of that is not lost on me.”
Jennifer is currently out on the CMT Presents Jennifer Nettles with Next Women of Country Tour 2016 with Brandy Clark and special guests Lindsay Ell and Tara Thompson, which will run through the end of April.
