Thomas Rhett recently won his very first ACM Award for his mega-hit, “Die A Happy Man,” which was named Single of the Year. After collecting his trophy, Thomas admitted backstage, “I’ve always wondered what it actually feels like, when people do walk up there and accept awards, and the feeling like the body rush when they called my name, especially Jake callin’ my name, ‘cause I’m really good buddies with Jake.”

When he heard his name called as the winner, Thomas says, “Me and [my wife] Lauren just looked at each other, and we were like, I cannot believe that just happened. We had no idea that was gonna happen and to have a song so personal like that, to have the success it did was pretty amazing.”

The funny part of the story was the awkward, red lipstick-filled kiss he and Lauren shared before he walked up on stage. Backstage Thomas explained Lauren’s mouth was still wide open screaming for him when he went in for the kiss, which resulted in lipstick all over his face, but he wasn’t complaining.

It was just revealed that Thomas, whose latest single, “T-shirt” is headed toward the top ten on the charts, has been nominated for four American Country Countdown Awards, which will be handed out live from Los Angeles, on May 1st, on FOX.

• Thomas Rhett won Single Record of the Year for “Die A Happy Man” at last weekend’s (4/3) ACM Awards in Las Vegas.
• By the looks of his Twitter account, it seems he and his wife went back to their beloved Hawaii for more vacation time after Vegas.
• He was also nominated for four ACCA Awards: Male Vocalist, Digital Song and Song of the year for “Die A Happy Man” and Digital Album of the Year for Tangled Up. The ACCA’s take place in Los Angeles in May.
