(AUDIO) Clare Bowen Is Grateful For the Evolving Role of Scarlett on ABC’s NASHVILLE

Anyone who has watched ABC’s Nashville from the beginning knows that Clare Bowen’s character, Scarlett, has undergone quite a few transformations from meek and mild to heartbroken to the victim, and now into a stronger more confident character who seems more self-assured. Clare says, “That’s been one of the most beautiful things and it’s been wonderful to play a character who is able to make mistakes. But the writers and Callie, the creator, and like everybody there, have been really lovely and collaborative with me because one of my biggest things is I’m an advocate for kindness and I think that drama is wonderful, and it’s really interesting, but a moral compass is really important.”

Clare is honored that both young and older fans have told her how much they look up to Scarlett for her vulnerability and the way she has handled herself on the show. She says, “They really look up to Scarlet in the way she deals with herself, whether she’s terrified or she’s….now she’s in a more confident place. She can still be terrified, but I’m really grateful to have been given a role where she’s able to handle it with as much grace as she can muster and as much compassion and kindness.”

Unfortunately, ABC just announced the cancellation of Nashville. Producers are shopping the show to other networks, but as of now, the season four finale, which airs this Wednesday night, will be the series finale.

Nashville – Clare Bowen evolution of Scarlet :55
“People are, they come to me with their personal stories, I guess. That’s been one of the most beautiful things and it’s been wonderful to play a character who is able to make mistakes. But the writers and Callie, the creator, and like everybody there, have been really lovely and collaborative with me because one of my biggest things is I’m an advocate for kindness and I think that drama is wonderful, and it’s really interesting, but a moral compass is really important and there are so many, so many little girls, little people, big people who have told me that they really look up to Scarlet in the way she deals with herself, whether she’s terrified or she’s….now she’s in a more confident place. She can still be terrified, but I’m really grateful to have been given a role where she’s able to handle it with as much grace as she can muster and as much compassion and kindness.”
