(AUDIO) THOMAS RHETT KNEW “T-SHIRT” HAD TO BE STRONG

After Thomas Rhett’s song “Die a Happy Man,” spent six weeks at #1, he knew whatever he put out next had to be strong. He says, “We struggle with this even in our live show ‘cause it’s like, what do you play after ‘Die A Happy Man’ when everyone is done singing every single word so loud, it’s like every single song after that it’s like, you better come with somethin’ pretty incredible.”

He chose the infectious “T-shirt” and he reveals, “I really wanted to cut it on the first album, so this song has been around with me for a long time. It was one of my wife’s favorite songs that I ever really put on hold that I didn’t write. It’s just fun and if there ever was a time to put out a song I’ve always wanted to put out, you know, why not do it after that one. And so, we love playin’ it live, and we’ve been playin’ it live for like three years, so for it to finally get the recognition that I’ve wanted it to for a long time, this was our shot, so we went for it.”

It looks like that decision is paying off for Thomas, because “T-shirt” is in the top five and still climbing toward #1 on the charts.
