(AUDIO) FLORIDA GEORGIA LINE ALMOST PASSED ON THEIR LATEST HIT

Florida Georgia Line caught a lot of people off guard when they released their latest hit, “H.O.L.Y.,” because it was such a departure from some of the music they’d released in the past. Interestingly, Tyler Hubbard admits it’s a song they almost passed on recording. He says, “It’s the song that came in kinda last minute. I would say we were already half way into recording the album and the song came in, me and B.K. gave it half a listen, probably not even to the chorus and said, ‘Naw, that’s not really us, we’re gonna pass.’”

As it turns out, neither Tyler nor Brian could get the song out of their head, and when they both realized it had stuck with them, weeks after the first time they heard it, they knew they had to record it. Tyler says, “We both kind of fell in love with it over those few weeks of livin’ with it and realized the power. Sometimes a song doesn’t hit you right away. Sometimes it takes a few seconds to actually get deep enough into the song to realize the power of that song.”

Ironically, Tyler says “H.O.L.Y.” is probably one of the songs they’re most proud of from their forthcoming album.

Florida Georgia Line – H.O.L.Y. passed at first :56

Tyler Hubbard – “Man, this song, it’s the song that came in kinda last minute. I would say we were already half way into recording the album and the song came in, me and B.K. gave it half a listen, probably not even to the chorus and said, ‘Naw, that’s not really us, we’re gonna pass.’ Then, I remember we kind a, a couple weeks later, we just were both kind a like, have you been listenin’ to that song? And sure enough, we were both like, man, we gotta cut this, man this is a special song. We both kind of fell in love with it over those few weeks of livin’ with it and realized the power. Sometimes a song doesn’t hit you right away. Sometimes it takes a few seconds to actually get deep enough into the song to realize the power of that song. So anyways, yeah we went in the studio, recorded it, Joey really brought it to life as well, me and B.K. poured our heart, you know, tried to give the best vocal take that we could possibly give and worked and worked on it, re-wrote a few things, added some things and made it our own. It’s probably, I think for both of us, one of the songs we’re most proud of.”
