Martina McBride continues to make music that is modern and relevant, but she says she doesn’t really listen to the radio to know what the trends are in music or to help shape her direction. “I don’t really and I never have,” says Martina. “I feel like there is a big part of me that wants to be a commercial artist, you know, I love hearing my songs on the radio and I love having hits. So, I don’t completely … like in my head there’s always usually a process of finding a few songs that I think will be commercially successful. But, it’s never commercially successful based on what is trending at the time.”
Martina uses her gut to help pick songs that she feels will be commercially viable. She says, “I feel like when I look back at all the hits that I’ve had, have been really, they’ve sounded really different and unique for the time. So, I never really ever fit into that template where it was like this is what’s happening and I fit in. I always was sort of, felt like my songs were a little on the fringe sonically and musically anyway. So, I just try to follow what I love and I feel like that’s why we do have kind of a particular individuality and style. It’s just from following your heart and your artistic vision is at the moment.”
Martina’s latest single is called “Just Around the Corner,” off her album, Reckless.
