Ronnie Dunn’s fantastic new single is called “Damn Drunk,” and it’s one he says was brought to him by his record label’s A&R department. It’s a little different and kind of exciting for Ronnie to have songs brought to him, because he remembers back in the Brooks & Dunn days, “That was always a challenge for Kix and I, not necessarily in a negative way, was to find outside songs. We’d catch ourselves sometimes being frustrated because we were expected to write, and it’s a good thing that we were expected to write because it pushed us to do that and come up with a lot of the songs that helped defined Brooks & Dunn and pay the bills around here, stuff that we’re very proud of.”
Fortunately, someone brought him “Damn Drunk,” which was written by Liz Hengber, Alex Kline and Ben Stennis. Ronnie says, “It’s one out of the thousands that we listened to for this record that just kept rising to the top and took it into the studio with Jay DeMarcus and he took it to another level. Really, really proud of it, proud of the work that he did.”
“Damn Drunk” is the first release off Ronnie’s new album, which will be released on October 21st.
Ronnie Dunn – finding Damn Drunk :56
“’Damn Drunk’ we started the recording process or pre-recording process was brought to me by Allison Jones from Big Machine, the A&R department over there. They have an unbelievably talented group of people over there pulling in top drawer songs. That was always a challenge for Kix and I, not necessarily in a negative way, was to find outside songs. We’d catch ourselves sometimes being frustrated because we were expected to write, and it’s a good thing that we were expected to write because it pushed us to do that and come up with a lot of the songs that helped defined Brooks & Dunn and pay the bills around here, stuff that we’re very proud of. But back to ‘Damn Drunk’, it’s one out of the thousands that we listened to for this record that just kept rising to the top and took it into the studio with Jay DeMarcus and he took it to another level. Really, really proud of it, proud of the work that he did.”
