Rascal Flatts won’t be working this Halloween, but when they do have tour dates around the holiday, Jay DeMarcus says, “We actually have a tradition as a band, that all of our band guys, the closest show to Halloween they all dress up, and it’s themed every single year.”
The guys are always surprised and often amused by the costumes their band chooses. “They create the theme themselves,” says Joe Don. “One year everybody was Storm Troopers, right?” “Except for the keyboard player was Darth Vader,” recalls Jay.
One lesson Rascal Flatts’ band has had to learn the hard way over the years is to pick costumes that are cool enough to wear on stage for an entire show. That year they all dressed as Star Wars characters, Joe Don recalls, “Our drummer was, he was another Star Wars character. He was Chewbacca or whatever, because he was sweatin’ so bad he about died.”
Gary LeVox says, “Have you noticed that their costumes, they’ve gotten smarter because the ones for the first couple of years didn’t have very big air holes and they had a lot of fur… A two-hour show, they’re starting to learn.”
These days, Rascal Flatts is focused more on Christmas than Halloween because of the release of their first-ever Christmas album, The Greatest Gift of All, which is available now.
Rascal Flatts’ The Greatest Gift of All will be available this Friday, October 21st.
