While most people enjoy turkey on Thanksgiving, that’s the one thing “That Ain’t Country” singer Aaron Lewis won’t eat. He explains, “My mom was a bit of a hippie and quite a bit before her time as far as, you know, the way everybody’s eating these days, this whole natural … well, that’s how I was brought up. I was brought up macrobiotic where it was brown rice, vegetables, seaweed, tofu and turkey. It was the one meat that seemed to end up on the table if there was going to be meat on the table. And it was organically raised and from down the street and so it had a little bit of a wang to it, the way wild turkey is a little bit stronger in its flavor than domestic turkey.”
So now as an adult, Aaron is pretty much over turkey, although he does recall one year he tried to fry a turkey, and Bono of U2 just happened to be having Thanksgiving dinner with his family, and everybody seemed to love it.
Not meaning to be a name dropper, Aaron explains that one year he was renting a studio down in Florida, and Bono happened to be in town. He asked Aaron if he could borrow the studio for a day, which just happened to be the day before Thanksgiving. So the next day, Bono joined Aaron and his family and all the guys from the studio for Thanksgiving dinner. As you can imagine, Aaron says, “It was cool.”

And it was organically raised and from down the street and so it had a little bit of a wang to it, the way wild turkey is a little bit stronger in its flavor than domestic turkey. And so at this point I don’t even eat turkey on Thanksgiving anymore. I go after the ham or the meat pie. I love meat pie or meat stuffing. We tried to deep fry a turkey one time but it was actually pretty good. I know that Bono from U2 went back three or four different times for more turkey and for more of my wife’s sweet potato casserole.”

Aaron Lewis – Thanksgiving Bono :58
“Yeah, sorry watch your toes. It’s steel toes around here. I’m just kidding. It was, I was in the studio recording vocals for 14 Shades of Grey and I was in Miami and I had rented a house on Key Biscayne and Bono had come in for the day the day before Thanksgiving and asked if he could use my studio that I was in just for the day. There was a song that he wanted to throw down real quick and I was like, ‘Dude of course.’ So the next day was Thanksgiving so he came to the house that I was renting for Thanksgiving and it was pretty cool. There’s a there’s a picture that I have of him with all of us. I mean there was probably 15 of us there for dinner because you know all the guys from the studio and my whole family and it was cool.”
