(AUDIO) BRANTLEY GILBERT RECALLS MAKING THE LIFE-CHANGING DECISION TO GO TO REHAB

Brantley Gilbert has been very open about his struggle with addiction to alcohol and pain killers, and he’s very proud to say that he has been alcohol and opiate free for over five years now.  A major turning point for Brantley was when he decided to go to rehab, and he remembers the exact night he made that choice.   “I don’t remember what song it was, but we had a milestone of some sort,” says Brantley.  “We were celebrating something one night and I went back to the bus and I remember sitting in the very back lounge of the bus going man, when good things happen I’d party and I’d celebrate but I don’t know that I actually ever took it in.”

Why this night was different from any other night he’s not sure, but Brantley says, “I remember sitting there the rest of the night and not coming back out. And eventually after about two hours just sitting there thinking, I called my manager and I was like, ‘Hey man I need to find a gap in my schedule. I need to make space for something.”

Shortly after that, Brantley went to rehab and since getting free of alcohol and opiates he is a changed man with a great career, including a new album, The Devil Don’t Sleep, featuring his latest single, “The Weekend.”

Brantley Gilbert – decision to go to rehab  :48

“I don’t remember what song it was, but we had a milestone of some sort. We were celebrating something one night and I went back to the bus and I remember sitting in the very back lounge of the bus going man, when good things happen I’d party and I’d celebrate but I don’t know that I actually ever took it in. Now for some reason that night my wheels started turning and I was messed up then. I’m not real sure exactly what brought it about. I don’t remember.  But I remember sitting there the rest and not coming back out. And eventually after about two hours just sitting there thinking I called my manager and I was like, ‘Hey man I need to find a gap in my schedule. I need to make space for something.”
