(AUDIO) BRETT YOUNG SAYS COUNTRY MUSIC SAVED HIS LIFE

Brett Young is celebrating his second #1 song with “In Case You Didn’t Know,” and he couldn’t be more grateful for the support he’s received, and for what country music has done for his life.  The fact that he is able to connect with his fans through his songs and his lyrics is awesome, but on a much deeper level, Brett says, “Music kind of saved me coming out of what I thought was going to be a lifelong baseball career.  I had a career ending elbow injury. I didn’t know what I was going to do and it’s a scary feeling knowing that you have way too much ADD to ever sit behind a desk.  Coming right off of a baseball career I found music and it was the only thing I’ve ever known myself to love more than sports. And so the fact that I get to do this for a living now, write songs, perform music, I think the power of music for me was that it kind of saved my life.”

Brett will attend this Wednesday night’s CMT Music Awards, where “In Case You Didn’t Know” is nominated for Breakthrough Video of the Year, then he’ll spend the rest of the week performing on various stages and meeting his fans throughout the CMA Music Festival.

Brett Young – favorite thing about writing and performing  :51

“I think my favorite thing about getting to write and perform music for a living is the fact that music, I think it kind of ties people together. A powerful lyric is a way for an artist to say I’ve been through this and I know all of you have too and you feel like you’re connecting with somebody.  And that’s one thing being the artist on stage, but the other thing for me is music kind of saved me coming out of what I thought was going to be a lifelong baseball career.  I had a career ending elbow injury. I didn’t know what I was going to do and it’s a scary feeling knowing that you have way too much ADD to ever sit behind a desk.  Coming right off of a baseball career I found music and it was the only thing I’ve ever known myself to love more than sports. And so the fact that I get to do this for a living now, write songs, perform music, I think the power of music for me was that it kind of saved my life.
