(AUDIO) RASCAL FLATTS REVEAL SONGS THEY PASSED ON

Rascal Flatts has recorded a ton of hit songs in their career, including their latest #1, “Yours If You Want It,” but they’ve also passed on a few hits, including “Don’t You Wanna Stay,” which was recorded by Jason Aldean and Kelly Clarkson.  Jay DeMarcus also says, “’Watching Airplanes’ by Gary Allan is one that we were pitched early on and for some reason, whatever reason, you know you can have different days and a song hits you a certain way and it just didn’t … we didn’t feel like it was us.  We thought it was a great song, but we were like, ‘No I don’t think we can do it.’ And then I heard it on the radio and I was like, ‘Damn!’”

Coincidentally, “Yours If You Want It” was co-written by Jonathan Singleton, who also co-wrote “Watching Airplanes.”  Joe Don Rooney says, “We didn’t pass this time, we cut it.”

Rascal Flatts new single will be the title track to their latest album, “Back To Us.”

Rascal Flatts – song you passed on  :27

Jay DeMarcus – “’Watching Airplanes’ by Gary Allan is one that we were pitched early on and for some reason, whatever reason, you know you can have different days and a song hits you a certain way and it just didn’t … we didn’t feel like it was us.  We thought it was a great song, but we were like, ‘No I don’t think we can do it.’ And then I heard it on the radio and I was like, ‘Damn!’

Joe Don – “And ironically, it was Jonathan Singleton that wrote that song ‘Watching Airplanes’ and he wrote ‘Yours if You Want It.’ So we didn’t pass this time, we cut it.”
