Brantley Gilbert knew his wife Amber for over a decade before they got married two years ago, so she’s been around his career long enough to know what to expect. She takes most of it in stride, but Brantley says one way they maintain a happy relationship is, “We have boundaries. We have to discuss certain things sometimes. I mean, like in any relationship we have to figure out where each other is comfortable and if there is something that I’m saying on stage or doing onstage that makes her feel disrespected that’s something as a husband I need to consider changing or make her understand why I say this or why do this. She does an awesome job with it.”
Every once in a while though, Brantley laughs and says something will happen that doesn’t sit well with Amber. He remembers one incident in particular where he was on stage performing and she was watching with his head of security. Brantley had reached down in the crowd to grab some of his fans hands and to give some people high fives, and when he did, a pair of women’s underwear got caught on one of his bracelets, so when he lifted his hands up in the air, it looked like he was proudly holding up a pair of women’s underwear. When he realized what was happening he freaked out, and so did Amber. Brantley says, “She looked up at my head of security, PJ, who’s been with me more than 10 years now, and he’s a gentle giant but he’s hilarious. He said, ‘I probably shouldn’t tell you this but I got to tell you what she did.’
He said, ‘You lifted up and had that on your arm,’ she looked up at him and said, ‘P.J…’
And he said, ‘Yes ma’am?’
And she said, ‘I’m going to need you to take me to the pit.’
He said, ‘For what?’
She said, ‘Because I’m going to find that … ‘
And he said,’ No no no no no!’”
The whole story makes “The Ones That Like Me” singer laugh now, but he knows at the time Amber was not happy that some woman had apparently taken her underwear off and tried to hand them to her husband. Brantley says of Amber, “She’s tiny but she’s tough.”

And I went to raise back up, we got to a point in the song where I throw both my hands up like that, and when I did, there was a pair underwear that got … I guess some old girl pulled her drawls off and they got hung right there on that thing and it looked to my wife like I was just holding a pair of underwear up like I was proud, ‘Oh yay!’ And I saw it and I was like, ‘Oh my god …”
And she looked up at my head of security, PJ, who’s been with me more than 10 years now, and he’s a gentle giant but he’s hilarious. He told, he said, ‘I probably shouldn’t tell you this but I got to tell you what she did.’

So she’s, yeah, she’s tiny but she’s tough.”
