Rascal Flatts has released “Back to Us” as the follow-up to their #1 song, “Yours If You Want It.” Gary LeVox explains that “Back to Us” is “basically about waking up in a stranger’s bed.”
But it’s not about a one-night stand. As Jay DeMarcus further explains, “It’s a guy that has very great self-awareness about himself that he’s been screwing up for a long, long time and he’s not been himself. And it’s about him coming full circle and saying ‘I’m so sorry that I’ve screwed up for so long and I know you feel like you’ve been sleeping with a stranger and not the man you fell in love with,’ and his willingness to go, ‘Tomorrow it’s going to be a brand new day because you’re not going to be waking up in a stranger’s bed anymore. We’re gonna get back to us.’”
“Back to Us” is the title track of Rascal Flatts’ latest album and Jay DeMarcus says, “It’s one of my favorites on the record, honestly. It’s just such a honest lyric.”
