Brantley Gilbert has always drawn on his own personal experiences to write songs for his albums, and even though he’s happily married now, that doesn’t mean that he won’t draw on past experiences to write a well-rounded album in the future. Brantley says, “(Amber and I) had a conversation about that early on and she’s known for a long time that I’m in a position now where nobody really wants to hear a whole record full songs about well, I’m married and … I’m married.”
While some of his songs will be about his happy present, Brantley says, “We have a long history. So I’ve got a lot of history to write about that can still be about her. And also I found that even songs that I’ve started in the past about other people, when I really thought about the emotions that I was trying to depict and express in those songs, like she was always there. When I thought about love, really actually like giving myself to somebody and somebody that could actually get the parts of me that nobody else gets to see, she was always there.”
Brantley’s latest single, “The Ones That Like Me,” is all about his past, present and future. In fact, he says if you want to understand who he is and what he’s all about, listen to his latest single.
Brantley Gilbert – songs about old heartbreak :45
“You know what? We had a conversation about that early on and she’s known for a long time that I’m in a position now where nobody really wants to hear a whole record full songs about well, I’m married and I’m married. That’s not to say that we don’t do a lot of fun things and share things together that I’m gonna write about, but a lot of things, man, we have a long history. So I’ve got a lot of history to write about that can still be about her. And also I found that even songs that I’ve started in the past about other people, when I really thought about the emotions that I was trying to depict and express in those songs, like she was always there.
