Brett Young first found out about his ACM Awards win for New Male Vocalist, when he got a call from Reba McEntire, who surprised him with the good news. Then Luke got another surprise when Luke Bryan showed up at an event Brett was participating in, to present him with his trophy. Immediately after holding his ACM Award trophy in his hands, Brett said, “I always talk about checking boxes, and that whole bucket list thing’s a real thing. But selling tickets and selling records is what you aspire to do and so when you get recognized by your peers it’s kind of like the cherry on top, you know. And so it’s really cool, Luke’s the first one that took me on tour last year, so to have him come be the one that handed it off was really special.”
Something else Brett loved about his ACM Awards win was that it was off camera, and didn’t put him on the spot in front of his peers to come up with an acceptance speech. He says, “To get the win was really special and it was fun. I didn’t even have to give a speech or anything. I’ll take my first win and get to eliminate the speech and all that stress, so it was a pretty fun experience.”
Brett is much more comfortable singing in front of people than he is giving speeches, which is why he’s loving getting to perform his latest single, “Mercy,” and his other hits, out on the Life Changes Tour with Thomas Rhett.

Brett Young – stiff competition :18
“It probably sounds cliché to say, and I know people say that all the time, but I think it already felt like a win when they named the category just to be mentioned amongst some of the people that I’m a really big fan of already. So to get the win was really special and it was fun. I didn’t even have to give a speech or anything. I’ll take my first win and get to eliminate the speech and all that stress, so it was a pretty fun experience.”
