To his peers and other adults, Kristian Bush of Sugarland is a pretty cool guy, but when it comes to his kids, it depends on which one you ask. When it was first decided Sugarland was getting back together to make music, Kristian kept it a secret from everybody, including his kids. He says, “Suddenly like Dad disappears and stealthily shows back up. And so I’m telling my [middle school] daughter, I’m like, ‘Camille are you dealing with it okay at school?’ Like I was really dramatic and she’s like, ‘Dad, they don’t care. My friends don’t listen to you.’ And I was like, ‘Okay, cool.’ And my son, he had a different reaction. He’s in high school and he’s like, ‘Dad, uhhh, you know there are people waving to me in the hall that didn’t used to wave to me. I think my social collateral just went up.”
Sugarland will release their new album, Bigger, on June 9th, and whether or not Kristian’s kids or their friends think what he does for a living is cool, he says, “They really are kind and sweet to me and support me and I take them on all the journeys every song, every record.”
Look for Sugarland to release their brand new single, “Babe,” co-written by and featuring Taylor Swift, later this week.
Sugarland – Kristian cool dad :39
Kristian Bush – “It’s hard to tell. I mean I couldn’t tell my kids about the fact that we were putting the band back together because were trying to make it surprise on the CMA’s. And then suddenly like Dad disappears and stealthily shows back up. And so I’m telling my daughter, I’m like, ‘Camille are you dealing with it okay at school?’ Like I was really dramatic and she’s like, ‘Dad, they don’t care. My friends don’t listen to you.’ And I was like, ‘Okay, cool.’ And my son, he had a different reaction. He’s in high school and he’s like, ‘Dad, uhhh, you know there are people waving to me in the hall that didn’t used to wave to me. I think my social collateral just went up. So it depends I think on the age, but they really are kind and sweet to me and support me and I take them on all the journeys every song, every record.”
