(AUDIO) BRANTLEY GILBERT TAKES THE FUN SONGS AS SERIOUS AS THE DEEP SONGS HE WRITES

Brantley Gilbert writes all of the songs he records, and he admits that some of them can be deeply personal and may require him to relive some painful moments in his life, but thankfully they’re not all that deep.  He says, “I take songwriting very serious. You know there are times when you can have a little bit more fun than others. That depends on the song I think. But there are certain songs that are more lighthearted that, you know, a lot of times those things write their selves a lot faster.”

While the deeper songs aren’t always easy, Brantley thinks they’re necessary.  Writing those, Brantley says, “not only are you dragging yourself through the mud trying to find the right words, really, to me it’s almost like a journal entry, some of these songs are. I feel like when you go through something if you’re living and learning, you know, relive it, learn it.”

Fortunately, Brantley’s latest single, “The Ones That Like Me,” doesn’t require a lot of painful reliving or soul searching.  Instead it is an honest portrayal of who Brantley is to those who know him best.

“I take songwriting very serious. You know there are times when you can have a little bit more fun than others. That depends on the song I think. But there are certain songs that are more lighthearted that, you know, a lot of times those things write their selves a lot faster.  And then you get your heavier songs that really not only are you dragging yourself through the mud trying to find the right words, really, to me it’s almost like a journal entry, some of these songs are. I feel like when you go through something if you’re living and learning, you know, relive it, learn it.”
