(AUDIO) MIDLAND LOVES THE FRESH AIR AND CHALLENGE OF PLAYING OUTDOOR FESTIVALS

Midland is spending their summer promoting their latest single, “Burn Out,” on the music festival circuit.  The guys love the unique environment and the challenge of playing on festivals with multiple acts because Cameron Duddy says, “When you play these festival dates and fairs, you’re oftentimes playing to people that haven’t heard you. And that is its own challenge to try to win over a crowd. And it brings us back to the honky tonk days where we were just playing for beer money and trying to get the people that showed up just to have an ice cold drink, to turn around and listen to you and give you a tip. So, it keeps you honest.”

Mark Wystrach also loves getting outside in nature on festival shows.  He says, “I think we love it though, because we’ve been indoors, inside a lot – inside of buses, inside arenas so like it’s good to be outside. I personally, I love it even though it’s not like sonically the perfect landscape, I like to see the sun.”

Cameron Duddy – “When you play these festival dates and fairs, you’re oftentimes playing to people that haven’t heard you. And that is its own challenge to try to win over a crowd. And it brings us back to the Honky Tonk days where we were just playing for beer money and trying to get the people that showed up just to have an ice cold drink to turn around and listen to you and give you a tip. So, it keeps you honest. It’s also the spirit and the energy of those things there’s a lot going on there.

Mark Wystrach – “And then Mother Nature itself acts as a total variable.  I mean talk about like the winds blowing at Stagecoach, like …”

Cameron – “Yeah, the heat of the summer, thunderstorms the whole deal.”

Mark – “Yeah I think we love it though because we’ve been indoors, inside a lot – inside of buses, inside arenas so like it’s good to be outside. I personally, I love it even though it’s not like sonically the perfect landscape, I like to see the sun.”
