Brett Young’s debut album featured several songs about heartbreak, including his latest single, “Mercy,” but now that he’s a happily engaged guy, Brett assures people that his next album won’t be full of only sappy love songs. “It is definitely a happier feeling album,” says Brett. I did though, want to make sure that we didn’t just put out 12 love songs. You alienate kind of half your audience at that point. I’m saying half being generous.”
Brett realizes that the entire world isn’t head over heels in love and he says, “Everybody has way more broken heart stories than happily ever after. So there’s more uptempo songs and just the overall feel is happier. But I still put a good amount of breakup songs in there for the people that are connecting to those right now.”
“Mercy” is the last song Brett will release off his debut album. Later this year he’ll release the first song off his sophomore album.
