Between the four members of the Eli Young Band, there are a total of four kids, and Jon Jones jokes that “Christmas got expensive” when he and his wife started having kids.
But in all seriousness, besides the extra expenses, Mike Eli says, “Not only did Christmas get expensive, but it did get a little more fun. There are a lot of things that you get to do that being a parent, it’s a lot of fun. Staying up late and helping the kids put out the cookies and the milk and those things and watching her be excited about it is just a really fun thing.”
For Jon, it’s helped to revive his excitement of having family Christmas traditions. He says, “There are some traditions that you have as a child, I know I had with my sister growing up, that when you get older you kind of start missing those and start to lose the feeling of Christmas because you feel like there’s no reason to kind of have those traditions.”
Now that he has two kids of his own – Lila who’s two, and Hudson who will turn six n New Year’s Eve – he says it’s sparked the idea of wanting to create new family traditions that he can pass onto his kids. “You kind of get to make it your own and get to see it through the eyes of your child,” says Jon. “It’s pretty special. I feel like there was definitely a period in my life kind of after college until we had Hudson that Christmas took on a different meaning and it wasn’t quite the same. And I feel like it’s a lot easier to get the Christmas spirit back again with a child in your life.”
Eli Young Band will take about two weeks off to celebrate the holidays with their families, before they get right back to work with a show on December 28th and a New Year’s Eve Show in Houston. They’ll continue their Love Ain’t Tour, named after their latest single, in the New Year.

Jon – “There are some traditions that you have as a child, I know I had with my sister growing up, that when you get older, you kind of start missing those and start to lose the feeling of Christmas because you feel like there’s no reason to kind of have those traditions and then until you have a child. And then it kind of starts the next cycle of what traditions do you want to pass on, how do you want to explain Christmas and everything that goes around it, and you kind of get to make it your own and get to see it through the eyes of your child. It’s pretty special. I feel like there was definitely a period in my life kind of after college until we had Hudson that Christmas took on a different meaning and it wasn’t quite the same.
