Brantley Gilbert’s latest song, “What Happens in a Small Town,” with Lindsay Ell, is the first release off his forthcoming album, which he’ll release later this year. While it’s a glimpse of what’s to come, it doesn’t nearly paint the complete picture. When it comes to what else fans can expect, Brantley says, “I was kind of born on the outside of the box and I think I’ll probably die that way. I mean, you’re going to have what you’re used to. You’ll have over the over-the-top rocker and you’ll have a little bit genre crossover.”
The biggest decision Brantley made when heading into album his fourth album for The Valory Music Co., was not to put any rules or restrictions on the music he was making. “If a song was leaning towards a rock song, we let it be a rock song. If it was leading towards another genre and let it be what it was,” says Brantley, “and that was a lot of fun for me as a songwriter. Not a lot of pressure, not trying to go in and water anything down so it’ll sound good on radio. Just go in and make the song the best version of itself.”
Brantley is expected to release his next album, featuring “What Happens in a Small Town,” sometime this summer.
