(AUDIO) MIDLAND’S ‘CHARACTERS’ ARE REALLY A COMBINATION OF ALL THREE GUYS

When you listen to Midland’s music, like their current hit, “Burn Out,” it features characters like the lonely, heartbroken guy in the bar, but according to Mark Wystrach, the songs are more true to life than you might think. “When you say characters, I wouldn’t say that it’s like, you know, we’re writing a novel that’s fictitious,” says Mark.

When you listen to their debut album, Mark says, “I think that very much that album was written from life experience. It’s definitely pulling emotions and circumstances and a lot of colors from each one of us and from our co-writers as well. So, you know when you listen to a song like ‘Drinkin’ Problem’ or ‘Burn Out,’ a lot of that is very familiar landscape for us – the way that we’ve all come up, the time that we spent playing music in bars, and I think real true experiences.  So, we’re not like writing from an outside perspective.  Everything is coming from us.”

While every single line in each song may not be autobiographical, Cameron Duddy says, “It’s not like there’s a guy named Mark in the song. There’s three of us, so the people that we write about are typically, like one person is maybe a combination of all of us.”

Midland is currently working on their sophomore album to release later this year.
