Eli Young Band released their first album 17 years ago, and since then they’ve released five additional studio albums and an EP. Now they’re about to release a collection of their hits, as well as fan favorites, and two new songs on This Is Eli Young Band: Greatest Hits, coming this Friday.
Two of EYB’s hits that will be on the project are “Crazy Girl” and “Even If It Breaks Your Heart.” Both songs were #1 hits for the band and James Young says, “’Crazy Girl’ was one of those songs … we had half the record recorded and we are starting to get submissions for outside songs. And it was one of those songs that me and Mike heard. We had the CD, and we were driving to the airport in Nashville and it was one of those undeniable, ‘Man this is a hit song we need to record it.’ John and Chris were on a writing retreat and we were like, ‘Hey man, you gotta hear this song.’ We just kind of knew that it was gonna be a great song for us.”
“Even If It Breaks Your Heart” was originally recorded by Will Hoge, and Mike Eli says, “We’ve always been a huge fan of this song from the first time we heard it. I think it empowered us. I think it felt like we were doing the right thing by going out there and following our dreams. And so recording this song was kind of a guilty pleasure for us. We recorded it for ourselves and I think that, that really came across in our version of the song on our album. And I think because we put so much passion into this song and the recording of this song, it we really felt like it was our own even though we didn’t write it.”
The two new songs on Eli Young Band’s Greatest Hits album are their current single, “Love Ain’t,” and another song called “Where Were You.” This Is Eli Young Band: Greatest Hits will be released this Friday, March 29th.
