Riley Green just scored his first #1 song of his career with his debut single, “There Was This Girl,” and while his family back home in Alabama is extremely proud, he admits that there are other things about his career that thrill them or impress them. “Going back home is funny,” says Riley. “My grandmother, she’s still excited that the lady that works at Huddle House knows me. So it’s a different thing.”
If you talk to Riley, you’ll quickly learn that he is quite humble about his talent and his career. He once said he wasn’t that great of a singer and wrote dumb songs, and he says, “We come from such a small town and none of us really imagined that this was gonna happen. It’s not like I was just some amazing talent at music and we just knew I was gonna be a star. It was really just, we accidentally did a couple things right and here we are.”
For the rest of his career, whether he has one hit or 20, Riley’s family will always be super supportive of him, but as far as they’re concerned, he may have already done the biggest thing he can do in his career. He says, “They came out and watched me at the Grand Ole Opry and that was my check mark of approval from them. That was the most famous thing I could’ve done.”
We’re guessing if and when Riley gets inducted into the Grand Ole Opry, his family will be absolutely beside themselves, and he will have achieved the greatest thing a country singer can do in their eyes.
