Besides releasing their own original songs, like their latest single, “Back to Life,” Rascal Flatts has been spending time in the studio recording covers of some of their favorite classic rock, pop and country songs, like the ones they released on their Jukebox EP, from artists like Hall & Oates, Kenny Loggins and Foreigner. Jay DeMarcus says making music they love without any kind of agenda has been a lot of fun. “We’re not targeting anything. We’re going in and doing music that we’ve loved and we’ve grown up on. And when you’ve got a singer like Gary that can sing a variety of styles and different genres, it’s like taking a Ferrari out for a test drive every time, you know, gettin’ it out of the garage and opening it up and letting it eat.”
Rascal Flatts hasn’t specified what genre their next batch of cover songs will focus on, but Jay says, “It’s fun to hear [Gary] sing all different kinds of styles. So, for me, it’s just been freeing and kind of liberating to not worry about it, to be honest.”
Rascal Flatts will kick off their Summer Playlist Tour this Thursday night in Ohio, which is the home state of Gary LeVox and Jay DeMarcus.
