When Lady Antebellum recorded their latest song, “What If I Ever Get Over You,” they were fairly certain they wanted it to be the first single from their new album, but they also wanted to keep an open mind and take input from the people around them. Fortunately, everyone was on the same page. “We went in and we cut six songs that we loved and that we knew, okay, there might be one that we would push back on if they chose that for the single out of the gate. But we were pretty much happy with wanting to see what the consensus was. And this one was unanimous.”
The group was convinced that “What If I Never Get Over You” was the right first release from their new project, because Hillary says, “Thinking about putting any of the other songs that we cut out before this one just didn’t feel right. And it’s been so many years since we’ve released a mid-tempo, longing heartbreak duet that really we love and is so much a part of who we are as a band and how we started. And so in a way it kind of feels like coming home but just with a fresh song. And when we heard it we’re like, ‘Man I wish we would have written this.’”
While Lady Antebellum didn’t write “What If I Never Get Over You,” they have done plenty of writing for their new album, which will be released later this year.
