(AUDIO) MIDLAND’S MR. LONELY CAME ALONG AFTER SOME COOL, REFRESHING LEMONADE

Midland’s latest single, “Mr. Lonely,” is one they wrote with their frequent collaborators, Shane McAnally and Josh Osborne.  The song was written at bassist Cameron Duddy’s house in Dripping Springs.  Thinking back on the day the song was written, Cam says, “I specifically remember that one coming at the end of the day. We blocked out two days together to write and I think everybody went to use the bathroom and have some lemonade, and we came back in and Jess had started vamping the chords with Josh … but this thing was happening when we walked in and it happened really fast. Everybody started throwing in, and we decided on this idea, and it just went pretty quickly.”

“Mr. Lonely” is the first release off Midland’s critically acclaimed sophomore album, Let It Roll, which is available now.

Midland – writing Mr Lonely  :46

Mark Wystrach – “It’s got that turn of phrase, you know, which we all love in country music but, really it was a conversation that was going on with Jess, Cam and Shane McAnally and Josh Osborne, actually out at Cam’s place out in Dripping Springs.”

Cameron Duddy – “I specifically remember that one coming at the end of the day. We blocked out two days together to write and I think everybody went to use the bathroom and have some lemonade, and we came back in and Jess had started vamping the chords with Josh.  And Mr. Lonely was a guy, or at least a phrase that I heard Jess use before in his old project. I don’t think it was ever written in a song but there was an album called The Real Mr. Lonely. So, I don’t know if you recycled that or what, but this thing was happening when we walked in and it happened really fast. Everybody started throwing in, and we decided on this idea, and it just went pretty quickly.”
