Lady Antebellum has crossed paths with and connected with hundreds of our military men and women and our veterans throughout their career, and one event they will never forget was back in 2014 when they performed as part of ACM Presents: An All-Star Salute to the Troops. During their performance they were joined on stage by some very talented Marine Corps members and backstage the band was able to interact with even more current and former military members. Hillary Scott recalls, “One of the women, she gave me her (Memorial) Bracelet in honor of her brother. She had lost her brother over in Afghanistan, and so, I mean, it was awesome to be able to connect with these men and women who protect us on a daily basis.”
While Hillary can only imagine what it would be like to leave her family behind to go off and serve our country, moments like the ACM special or anytime they have a chance to interact and connect with our veterans, she says, “It just gives us even the smallest taste of what they walk with and have to live with, and the hurts, and the highs and the lows of it every single day.”
Lady Antebellum will release their brand new album, Ocean, next week, featuring their latest single, “What If I Never Get Over You,” and one of the advance tracks they released off the album is called “What I’m Leaving For.” It was written from their perspective of leaving their families behind to go on tour, but they also say the song makes them think a lot about our military men and women who leave their families behind for unimaginable stretches of time to go off and serve our country.
