Rather than a specific dish, Brett Young says there’s one particular side item he has to have at Thanksgiving, and it has to be made by a very specific person. “For Thanksgiving, aside from the turkey, my thing – and it’s a normal thing to everybody but for whatever reason it’s a staple at Thanksgiving for me – and everybody has gravy, but it’s my mom’s homemade gravy.”
Brett has never been able to pinpoint what makes his mom’s homemade gravy so special. “I don’t know if it’s a little bit saltier than most,” says Brett, “but it’s exactly the same every year for my whole life for as long as I can remember. And that’s always the biggest disappointment if I go somewhere where the gravy is so different that it doesn’t feel, smell, or taste like Thanksgiving.”
Brett, whose latest single, “Catch,” is in the top 25 and continuing to climb the charts, will celebrate his first Thanksgiving as a dad, to his one-month-old baby girl, Presley.
