(AUDIO) LADY ANTEBELLUM LOVES THE UNIVERSALITY OF “WHAT IF I NEVER GET OVER YOU”

Chances are, if you’ve ever broken up with someone you’ve loved, you can relate to some, if not all, of Lady Antebellum’s latest song, “What If I Never Get Over You,” and that’s exactly why they wanted to record the song.  “To me, this song, it asks so many great questions that are unanswered,” says band member Dave Haywood.  “What if time doesn’t do what it’s supposed to do? What if I never get over you? What if I’m trying and I just can’t get over you? And I think we’ve all been there.”

It’s those same universal emotions that Dave believes made Lady A’s song, “Need you Now,” such a huge success.  “I mean, that song, you know, it went around the world, to me. because it just related to everybody,” says Dave.  “So, the relatability [of ‘What If I Never Get Over You’] is what stood out. I don’t know, just to be able to tell both sides of a male and female perspective is just something that I feel like we just got away from a little bit. And so, it’s exciting to be back doing that again and it felt like us.”

The song was co-written by Laura Veltz, Ryan Hurd, John Green and Sam Ellis, and Dave says, “I was always like damnit, we didn’t write it.  But somehow this one feels like something we wrote more than some of the other ones we have written. And I don’t know why, but there’s something beautiful about it that tells, to me, both sides of the story.  The lyric, to me, asks questions that we all have and have thought of at some point in time.”

“What If I Never Get Over You” is the lead single off Lady Antebellum’s first album on BMLG Records, Ocean, which they released less than two months ago.
