Midland’s fans are known as Midlanderos, and lead singer Mark Wystrach explains how he came up with the name. “I grew up on the Mexican border and the Mexican culture is important, and something that the three of us all enjoy,” he says. “And I don’t remember when or where it was but I just threw it out there, you know, ‘Midlanderos.’”
Just like their music, their fan base name has a bit of a throwback feel to it, and Mark says, “It reminded me of kinda like the 1950s, kind of fan groups, that, I don’t know, you’d get like in a Cracker Jack box, you’d get like a Midlanderos encoder ring… t almost sounds like an old 50s Western or something, and it just caught.”
The only problem with the name, according to Jess Carson, is that people will mispronounce it from time to time. He says, “Sometimes people will come up and go, ‘What’s the Mil-AN-deros?’”
Midland just released their brand new single, “Cheatin’ Songs,” and they’ll be resuming their Let it Roll Tour with a sold out date on January 31st in Boston. To learn more about the Midlanderos, visit MidlandOfficial.com.
