Lady Antebellum’s new single, “What I’m Leaving For,” was written by Laura Veltz, Sam Ellis and Micah Premnath, and it’s a song that spoke to Hillary Scott in a couple of ways from the first time she heard it. “I think about, as a music fan growing up, the songs that helped me say my emotions when I didn’t really know how to, like, going through things. And this is one of those because I listen to it and I’m like, ‘This is my life.’ I was that child because my parents toured with Reba for the majority of my childhood, and so I was that little girl and now I’m that mom and that parent.”
So much of Lady Antebellum’s latest album, Ocean, is a reflection of their present truth and where they’re at in this season of their life, and Hillary says the first time she heard “What I’m Leaving For,” “I felt such a true, very present representation of where I am, where we are as a band with our families.”
