(AUDIO) JUSTIN MOORE HAS TO BE CAREFUL WHEN HE WRITES SONGS WITH DAVID LEE MURPHY

Justin Moore co-wrote his latest hit song, “Why We Drink,” with David Lee Murphy, Casey Beathard and Jeremy Stover, and he admits that writing with David Lee can be tricky because he’s such a big fan of his writing and his singing.  “I remember the first time I ever wrote with him,” says Justin. “This was maybe 10 years ago now or something like that.  And he’s singing these lines and I’m … every line he sings you just go. ‘That’s a great line.’ But you start realizing, I’m gonna love every line he does cause he’s singin’ ‘em and it sounds like him still, you know what I mean?  And so you’ve gotta be careful.”

Rhett Akins is another guy that could make Justin think a song they’re writing is good just because he’s singing it.  “He just sings so good,“ says Justin, “and obviously they’re both ridiculously talented and great writers.  But yeah, you sit there, even to this day, and you go, ‘It didn’t sound like that when I just sang it. I wish I could make it sound like that.’”

While Justin has to be careful not to fall into the trap of thinking a song is good just because David Lee is singing it while they’re writing it, he says, “He’s one that I definitely grew up lovin’. I mean both those guys, and now to become friends with ‘em and had hits with both of ‘em, if I’m not mistaken, over the years, it’s pretty neat for sure.”

“Why We Drink” is currently in the top ten on the charts and looking like it could become Justin’s next number one song in the next several weeks.

“I remember the first time I ever wrote with him – this was maybe 10 years ago now or something like that.  And he’s singing these lines and I’m … every line he sings you just go. ‘That’s a great line.’ But you start realizing, I’m gonna love every line he does cause he’s singin’ ‘em and it sounds like him still, you know what I mean?  And so you’ve gotta be careful. Rhett’s the same kinda way. He’s the same type deal. He just sings so good, and obviously they’re both ridiculously talented and great writers.  But yeah, you sit there, even to this day, and you go, ‘It didn’t sound like that when I just sang it. I wish I could make it sound like that.’  But naw, he’s one that I definitely grew up lovin’. I mean both those guys, and now to become friends with ‘em and had hits with both of ‘em, if I’m not mistaken, over the years, it’s pretty neat for sure.
