When Lady A appeared on the NBC show, Songland, of the three songs they were presented with the opportunity to record, they ended up going with “Champagne Night,” and Dave Haywood says, “The reason we chose this song was it was so much fun when we first heard it.”
There was no way at the time Lady A filmed their episode of Songland that they could have known that they were going to have to cancel their 2020 Ocean Tour, so one of the big things that made the song so appealing, according to Dave is that “When Madeline Merlo performed the original on Songland. I could immediately see this at a show in front of 15,000 people singin’ at a big amphitheater. Those are the songs that are hard to write and she captured it great, and with all the tweaks from Shane and the rest of the team, it is such a fun song.”
Now, of course, touring is on hold indefinitely, with the exception of some socially distanced shows, but Dave speaks for all of Lady A when he says, “I cannot wait to be back up on stage performing ‘Champagne Night’.”
