When the members of Lady A took a brief hiatus in between changing record labels, they each worked on solo projects, including the Grammy-winning album Hillary recorded with her family, and Charles Kelley’s solo album, The Driver, which earned a Grammy nomination for the title track. And while they enjoyed stepping outside the Lady A box for a moment, now that they’re back together with their latest album, Ocean, and their perfect summer song, “Champagne Night,” solo projects are definitely not on the table for now. According to Dave Haywood, “At this time I don’t think we’ve got any outside time to jump into much else. I mean, we’re even talking about when we begin writing again, all together after the pandemic and stuff, to kind of begin working on another project.”
While the band has had unexpected time off the road during quarantine, Dave says, “Our heads have really been just down, and what can we do for Lady A? I mean, what can we do to continue to keep this thing going? I know that that’s just where our head is at and where our focus is for now.”
That’s not to say that there won’t be more Lady A solo side projects down the road somewhere, but for the foreseeable future, Charles, Hillary and Dave are focused on the band..
