Midland’s latest single is called “Cheatin’ Songs,” and it’s about a guy coming to the realization that the women he loves is cheating on him. It was co-written by all three members of the band with Shane McAnally and Josh Osborne, and admittedly, the guys in Midland had plenty of personal stories to pull from. “Jess had a girlfriend that cheated on him,” Midland’s bassist, Cameron Duddy offered up, “and Jess found the guy on State Street in Santa Barbara, and he jumped out of his moving car and chased the guy down with a baseball bat. Car was still moving.”
While they didn’t reveal if Jess caught the guy, or what happened if and when he did, Jess was a little concerned about sharing the story, asking, “What’s the statute of limitations on that?”
Cameron assured him it was 10 years and he was good, so perhaps one day Jess will give us the rest of the story of that incident that helped lend some credibility to the heartbroken lyrics of “Cheatin’ Songs.”
