(AUDIO) RILEY GREEN’S NEW SONG ISN’T JUST ANOTHER TRUCK SONG

CURRENT SINGLE: “If It Wasn’t for Trucks”

Riley Green’s brand new song is called “If It Wasn’t for Trucks,” and some people might assume from the title  that it’s just another song about trucks and riding around and partying out in the fields on the tailgate, but the song is actually much more than that.  Plus, Riley points out, “There are a lot of truck songs out there, but man, I mean, if we’d have stopped after ‘Daddy Let Me Drive’ or ‘Pickup Man,’ we wouldn’t have got ‘I Drive Your Truck.’  And there’s a lot of rodeo songs.  There’s a lot of songs that talk about a creek or a lake or whatever, so I didn’t worry too much about that.”

According to Riley, what sets “If It Wasn’t for Trucks” apart from other truck songs is, “The whole song is really personal, you know. Talking about when my granddaddy died where was I supposed to cry?  It’s like, you didn’t cry in front of anybody.  You pulled off in your truck somewhere if you were gonna do it.”

Whether it’s a song about a truck or love or a break up, when it comes to writing a song, Riley says, “Everything’s probably already been said.  Anything you can ever say, any idea, it’s probably been written in one of the eight billion country songs there are out there.  But finding a cool way to say it and finding a personal way to say it, I think is what makes a song stick out in my mind.”

“If It Wasn’t for Trucks” is the title track off Riley’s new EP, which he released last month.
